So i'f just gone and bought Windows Vista - thought i'd take the plunge - got the 64bit premium being delivered tuesday, got another 2gig of 800mhz Corsair ram to take it to 4gig of the stuff, and a new case for a bit more cooling

May try water cooling, but what are teh prices and functionality of it like?

So anyway, i play a bit of Flight Sim X now and then which is meant to look shit hot on vista with DX10 - i don't have a DX10 graphics card Sad Anyone have any rough (or firm) ideas of when the ATI DX10 cards are out so i can play it in it's glory? :'(

That link just gives me an error message Sad

I'm suprised at just how much my system is falling behind in only a few months, damn you all Smile

I suppose i bought the graphics cards just as the X1950's were coming out, but i'll be getting one of teh ATI DX10 cards when they arrive - the core 2 chip should see me through for a bit. I have a problem with graphics cards creating alot of heat and generally everything getting to hot.

But my new case should sort that, and it has the fixings ready for if i want water cooling, just dont know if the price to overclockability and workingness is worth it? and i'd probably eventually want to put the gfx cards through it if i did... Just thinking out loud here really

I will fix the link when I get home, but for a top pump, cpu water block, lines + fittings and a triple fan radiator your looking at 150 quid, if you want GPU coolers they are about 50 - 60 quid each!
with all this fitted you will be looking a cutting your temps by at least half, not to mention the air temp in the case and making your pc silent! the loudest parts of my pc are my dvd and hard drives!!

You dont fancy being a top bloke and building me a shopping basket to fit? I will openly admit i am completely clueless when it comes to water cooling.

If you do i have.

A Core2 Due Chip,
MSI Power up Platanum motherboard
2 x X1900 ATI Cards
and the case will be a Coolermaster Mystique 631

Post on here or pm it, thanks if ya do and no worries if you dont, i'm gonna look into it a little today, 150quid sounds good for being able to overclock the daylights out of it

No mate your water cooling system has its own tank that you maintane and fill if needed. Plus i would not use water, use some sort of flouride mix like fluid xp that is not conductive!

Plus buid it yourself its more fun i expect!

LT!

I will sort you out a shopping basket when I get home, using my phone for internet during the day so computing power is a bit low for linking!!
yeah like LT said, you don't use tap water, special coolant is best, water will give u lime scale! I will supply a few links to some vids I found on the net showing how to fit and build a system!

That'd be good - cheers for the help guys.

I don't mind building it myself, but i am honeslty clueless as to what components i'd need in order for it all to work, and there's nothing more frustrating than it all arriving to find out you haven't ordered a pipe or something and have to wait another 3 days

Hey dude, heres a good link for you re: watercooling

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?type=3&id=69&page=2&desc=battle_of_the_water_cooling_kits

The alphacool set (which is amazing apparently) is about £150 from specialtech

http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/home.php?cat=320

If you buy that kit, it just comes with 1x double radiator, a pump, reservoir and a CPU block. If you want to cool 2x GPUS you will definately need to buy a further double radiator (£40) and two GPU blocks (£50 each min ...). Make sure you get alphacool or dangerden water cooling stuff as the polishing on the cooling blocks needs to be amazing (like a mirror), or heat wont transfer from the chip to the water. You get nice cool water and burning hot chips...

Thats an expensive solution, I know, but if you get a cheaper watercooling kit, you just wont get the same low temperatures. For instance, the Thermaltake BigWater setup looks good right? its only 70 quid. But in reviews the finish on the copper CPU block is not so smooth, Your water stays nice and cool but the CPU cant transfer heat to it because of a crappy surface.

To be honest, I wouldnt bother with watercooling 2x x1950xt cards - whcih you will soon have to get rid of. Instead, sell your x1950's and buy a single 8800GTX - they run much cooler and you will then have no probs with your CPU temps (as case temp will be lower) plus you get DX10 support Smile

If you want to wait for the new ATI cards, great, but know that they are going to be really really hot, so you will be back to square one.

By the way - did you ever get around to selling your old P4 x800 setup ? Razz

Chuck my PC in a bucket of vegetable oil, don't know why I didn't think of that Laughing

The danger is with the fans still turning is that the oil will probably emulsify over time, so your super cooled PC will slowly become encased in thick fat Embarassed
