Hi guys.
My best mates has a bad run of luck and basically is in a bit of trouble money wise. To try and cheer him up a bit Ive decided to try and build him a cheap desktop capable of playing BF2 (at least on low settings!) and was wondering if any of you guys had any parts to donate/sell me cheaply. Also if you spot any amazing deals online shout me as well.
If we get it up and running Im hoping I can pay his subscription for him (that ok Mrix?) so he can join the clan.
Cheers lads

Don't know what state of the art equipment you are looking for but I have an epox 8rda+ (nforce2)mobo with xp1700+ (newer more overclockable version). It ran at just over 2ghz on aircooling(lowest fan setting on a volcano 7cu+) no problem. You can have it free as it has been gathering dust for the last year. There was a problem with mobos and blown caps and my model was one which was affectedbut the caps on mine look fine.
You can let me know, unless someone comes along with better equipment, as I know it is pretty old by todays standard.
I also have an enermax 350watt supply.
No gfx card or memory. Gave away my geforce 4600ti a few months ago. |

been having a bit of a sort out and have found a 550 sli psu + floppy, dvd and hdd cables, some various fans, a nice cpu cooler, 4 port usb header the 300gb hard drive i mentioned earlier and also a cooler master musketeer display, it doesnt do a lot but will brighten up the dullest of pc cases!
all yours if u sort out the postage
been in money troubles in the past so i know its not fun

Many thanks to all who replied - hopefully i only have to stump up for a tft screen (cheers for the offer gordo but he needs to save space as well - not have a monster of a CRT! ) and a PC case. Think you lot have covered the rest, great stuff!
*edit* you realise this means he will be playing on low settings - he will kick our asses!! no shadows etc etc |

Wow, that's really kind of you smurf / everyone Nice people do still exist in the world!
I just donated my old PC to my church (well, soon as I can afford to replace it but its been pledged), but would be happy to donate via Paypal towards the other bits. You got a pp address? Else, I can pay a few months subscription to mrix on his / your behalf - maybe that would be easier?
All the best,
w00p! |

Update on the PC situation:
mobo & CPU received from Mrix, PSU & HDD received from jackrabbit, RAM & graphics card from Scouseandy, I have bought a cheap thermaltake mambo case, a new screen for myself the samsung 206BW (awesome btw!!) so he gets the old, a DVD ROM, CD Burner, keyboard, mouse & speakers.
Forgot the &*%%^!!!! DVI cable - had to go to dixons &*&*%!!!!
Then the PC wouldnt work - had to strip mine down in the end to figure out the problem - the PSU was not working.
New PSU ordered (Antec Truepower)- More $$$ spent - dont tell the wife but I ordered a raptor HDD at the same time - Shhhhhhh!
SHould receive the new PSU in the next couple of days |
