just a quick ??

when playing on a game server if you disable your firewall and virus scan are you safe from attack?

, I would personally keep all defences up as there is just so much out there waiting to pounce on your PC!

i dont drop my firewall but i do turn of my virus scan as i do notice a difference when i do thanks mrix(again) Very Happy

I've got a firewall and virus scanner install but I always turn them off before entering a game as they can be annoying when updating etc.

I turn of my av and just relay on windows fw more the fool me lol.. this is mainly because i use nortons which compared to most av's takes more juice to run and also as a habit with later versions 04-05 to scan even the transfer and use of files within your own pc not just when on the net. Not had problem so far with attacks in bf2 apart from if i run the standalone server, seem to get port scan attacks then.

NOTE: if you can't afford to fix it, dont try it......The thing with viruses/hacks/loggers you never know whats around the corner....... had a laptop once upon a time, sadly it caught bird flu and never recovered...

If your using norton you should upgrade to Zonealarm its so much better n doesn't eat your computers resources. I swapped over last week and noticed my frame rate at 1600x1200 2xAA and all settings on full go from around 40 to between 60 and 70 and it also found loadsa spyware that norton, adaware and spybot missed.

I Turn off AVG (VC), although its a good program as only updates as soon as PC boots, unlike others i know update when they feel like it.

I leave Zonealarm Firewall up and running, I find the game mainly fine, or some lag but other people seem to have the lag at the same time, usually at the start of a game when all the other players joining.

sorry correction there think the resolution is 1152x864 or 1280x1024 pretty sure its 1152 tho sorry.

I use AVG7 and ZA both of which I normally leave running. But the thought does strike me that I may get better results switching AVG off I'll have to try it thx guys Wink
