Thank you for the ongoing help lads, I am very grateful. I know very little when it comes to upgrading etc.
I have just retured from PC World with a x1650 (AGP) 256. £90. They didnt have the 512's which are the same price. They have reassured me that I will see a big difference from my 6600le.
I only logged on to see the link for the latest drivers and hadnt seen your advice on what to buy. Thank you for that but unfortunatly I didn't see the advice to take it.
I will see how I get on with this before thinking about telling PC World I dont like it and want my money back. |

******* UPDATE********
The new card I have bought is/must be faulty as monitor says "No Signal - Going to sleep", exactly the same thing happened last time I bought a card, the shop glady excahnged. I take out the x1650, replace it with my old 6600 and the monitor picks it up straight away.
I now have a few options.
1, Take card back to PC World, swap for a working one
2, as above except drive to either Merthyr or Newport where they have the 512 version for same price £90.
3, Take card back to PC World, demand a refund and take the given advice and purchase the one off ebuyer as shown in previous link (thank you). (Extra £20 at the most, postage inc).
I reckon option 3 as PC W showed me a chart with speeds on and the x1950 battered the others. I cant remeber what it was for but I'm sure the x1950 was 32 and all the others in the same range were 12.
Providing I can re-instal the nvidia drivers again I can play BF2 tonight (Sat) and until a new card arrives from ebuyer. I have downloaded summat from nvidia but have ran out of time to investigate further.
As always thank you for any help offered.
***2nd Update****
I have discovered I only have a 350w power supply so probably cant run the x1950 pro, so I may be stuck with the x1650 pro but at least I have today to try and swap it for the 512 version, all be it for a bit of a drive.
My Mobo is: GA-8ISXT-FS after downloading and running Everest Home Edition it tells me the following. 5pci, 1agp, 4ddr dimm etc. Does this mean my card runs in PCI aswell (Graphics) |

Cheers T - Bone, Ive only just got back and the fella in PC World explained that aswell.
It seemed the card wasn't faulty and what I was doing wrong was not using power cables on the card. I have swapped the 256 for the 512 (same price) so an hours journey wasnt a complete waste of time and for once in my life I didnt go all guns blazing saying "Your shit this and your shit that" cos as mentioned there was nothing wrong with the card I just thought when they said plug n play they ment it not plug this, that and this other bit.
Im about to have a go now at installing it. |
