I rushed home all excited during my lunchbreak ( ahh the pleasure of living 2 mins from work) to check that advice Ghetto, but unfortunately it was already unticked and has no effect at all.

On reading though what seems like a thousand posts and google threads the only practical advice seems to be that this SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card only has one main output jack ( the grey and pink are for surround sound speakers) and therefore you can only choose between speakers or headphones !!.
The answer therefore is either a 2jack stereo splitter ( £2.99 from amazon ), or if you unplug your headphones alot then a stereo extension cable ( £5.99 from amazon ) - note that with this you can only use it if you have a jack-plug in your speakers for your headphones to plug directly into and the mic can be extended down to the mic jack.

Sigh. I'm going for the splitter for now as I continuously change between my headphones for gaming and speakers for music.

hope this helps anyone who has this card and stubbornly refuses to use the onboard sound.... Confused

I do apologise then bedlambob.

I was always using the front i/o ports on the fatality front thingy m bobby for the headphones - which i could plug in and it would go to headphones, or take out and it would go back to the speakers. using the raer ports i'm not sure.

With my on board sound however i have three outputs all treated as individual outputs, rear headphone socket, front headphone socket, and speaker socket, so it means i can have three suimultanious outputs all treated sperately - i'm actually quite liking on board sound Smile

Sorry i couldn't be of more help bob
