From looking at the screenies and reading up on the game its statting to look pretty hot cant w8 to finish the download and try it out. |

I got into ealy beta for this one, not touched it in ages though, mainly as i think MMO's just arent for me at the moment, i dont have the time to put into them in truth, the stuff i have read says they have added lots of content form when i tested, but a brief and quite possible very outdated overview..
You sail around a 'world map' which is pretty much point and click but wind has an effect so you are better off manually tacking and adjusting course when the wind is against you. Sea combat is instanced. When you run into an enemy (ies), you ant the othr combatents are taken out of the 'world map' for your fight. While in this 'instanced fight' you can send out a flare inviting others of your faction (England, France, Spain and Pirate) to come to your aid. It sounds a bit diodgy but works well, you dont have to worry about other stealing yopur prey but squadrons of ships can still workl together.
Within the combat view, you ship is split into 4 main sections front back and sides (whatever the proper terms are). Each has its own armour value before you start taking hull damage. This means if you take sonme broadsides to one side of the ship and you are taking hull damage for example, you can manouver (or try) so that you preasent the othe undamaged side to the enemy. This combined with having to work with or against the wind and the fact all the ships handle differently with the wind at didfferent points make for much more tactical combat than other MMO's. Its very much about winning the batle through manouver rather than button mashing.
You can load the different types of shot and thereby altre your attack to shred the sails or kill the crew or juist pound the hull till it sinks. You have the option to upgrade and customise your ships as well as pick up special abilities. These work pretty much as in other MMOS's and was one of my main concerns, repairs and such during combat felt a bit too much like 'magic'
PvP is not quite fully open but they have certainly spent lots of time on it. Ports can be contested andthis creates large PvP zones around them with the aim of the Ports being captured or defended. It has the potential to be an Eve beater (which IMO would take a lot) I may drag myself back at some point if i still have access, especially if others are going to play too. |
