Its bloody impossible it seems to me. I had the configs using my joystick but were probably wrong (Logitech Attack 3), I could get up but not control very well, so I switch settings back to default so now I'm using mouse n keyboard and it's even harder.
I need to start flying as I have the points for my next rank but am some 47 hours short in a plane along with the kills IAR.
I have tried to take the following advice but it dint work for me and seemed as if I had to use joystick and mouse ??
And here is how I set up my personal flying, very different from other people as I only have 2 buttons.
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1152/aircraftlc8.png
Now to explain how I fly; I use my joystick to control the movement of my jet most of the time, hence why I have Pitch fowards/back bound to the joystick. Fire/Alt fire, the same reason, I love using the joystick for firing.
To change my speed is a little different, I keep the axis on my joystick to middle in case I need to type on game whilst flying, most of my speed is controlled with W and S.
Also; note that using A and D will turn the jet differently, meaning that you will handle differently (And I believe better) than anyone who uses just a joystick, try this in game to see what I mean, the A/D does a different move compared to using the Joystick.
I use C to change views as it's default and in a prime location for key/joy flying.
I also use one thing that not many people have, I use a program called "JoyToKey" It allows me to bind the main fire on my joystick (Machine Guns) to left click, so when in flight I can press Q followed by MG fire to do a spot, this makes playing so much easier, and once you get used to spotting, you'll start spotting whilst in C view (Spotting jets you just passed)
If you get the program, set it up like this:
Open the program, right click on Button 1 and click "Configure"
Click the 3rd box in, seen as "Mouse", then select the box at the bottom called "Left click" click okay and you will bind your Fire 1 button on your keyboard to also act like a left click, this won't change anything in game as mouse left click is MG fire anyway wink
I really suggest you get JoyToKey, it's the most amazing program to use with BF2.
Is that advice wrong, please can someone offer me more help please I really am stuck. |

I was hoping you would reply to this Geordie and perhaps change my mind. As you know I do want to see what this side of the game is like and look forward to having a new game. "BF2 from the air" but I tried for an hour and a half last night and just couldn't work it out. I re-config'd my joystick as advised but found I had to fly using Joystick, Mouse and Keyboard.
Then I tried Joystick only but that didnt work, then I tried Keyboard only and found this was even harder. Reading through many threads on bf2 forums I think most people suggest keyboard and mouse.
I tried on Single Player on Clean Sweep (USA). Round starts and some cheeky monkeys have already grabbed the jet. Then it dawns on me there are two seats. The MEC AI must of shot it down so it respawns, I jump in and couldn't get friendly AI to jump in. Eventually I made a squad and the AI's jumped in.
I found an empty Wake server to try and fly but as USA the Harrier style jet just flopped off the boat into the water and I couldn't control the mec one off the airfield.
I'm gutted I never stuck with flying when the game first came out but appriciate the phrase "Your never too late to learn".
I am a total, total novice you I couldn't even tell you the name of each plane. I say plane as I learned last night that one is a bomber as it had two seats.
I look forward to learning from you but please be patient with me as I will struggle for a long time. |

Looks like all you need to do is remove "Joy Axis 2" as it will just confuse things when moving the joystick around. Also increase the sensitivity up a bit and more as you get better
hope it helps

I use my joysticjk fo flying jets and its so much better to use and people always ask me how I can turn so quickly and be straight on the target but the joysick is the reason! I tried using it in the choppers but for me the mouse & keyboard is much better. As far as being patient 27 I think I should be able to cope in giving u a few handy tips but only one person can do it and thats you mate! |
