I thought I would post the PvP ideas that are to be implemented in AoC. It's nice to have a mixture of quick blast PvP action or the more strategic lengthy battle. Another option is to pop down the pub, have a few sherberts and then bang a few heads together!

PvP - Player versus Player

Age of Conan sports a number of choices for the PvP player, everything from casual, instant fun minigames to massive siege battles to an entire PvP server with friends to make and foes to kill.

Your PvP options include:

PvP Minigames
Age of Conan’s PvP minigames are intended as “pick up and play” fun, something easy to get into solo or with a group of friends, a way to hop right into the action when you want something fast and furious, more akin to an FPS match than traditional MMO combat.

Age of Conan’s PvP minigames include:

*
Capture the Skull
You will join one of two teams with the goal of capturing the opposing side’s skull as many times as possible. They will, of course, not take kindly to this and will try to stop you.
*
Team Annihilation
You will join one of two teams, with the goal being to kill as many players on the opposing team as you possibly can. Of course, they’ll be trying to do the same to you.

Massive PvP/Siege PvP
Head out to the Border Kingdom with your guild, or hire yourself out for pay, and wage epic battles for control of player-owned battlekeeps. There are a limited number of these battlekeeps on each server, meaning combat will be fast and furious, and the benefits of owning one mean guilds will fight tooth and nail to keep theirs (or take away someone else’s!)

PvP Servers
For those who just can’t get enough PvP, Age of Conan features PvP-flagged servers, with rules allowing widespread PvP, and PvP-RP servers, which not only allow for lots and lots of PvP, but also feature a robust ruleset encouraging roleplaying and staying in-character.

Advancement
PvP also has its own system of leveling and advancement, with dedicated PvP levels, feats, and so forth, for those who do well or spend a lot of time PvPing. This system will complement the regular advancement system, allowing you to further tune your character to your own tastes.

Drunken Brawling
You will proceed to one of the designated taverns, get drunk out of your mind, and take wild, drunken swings at friends and foes alike.

It's going to be tough to gain PvP levels, probably too tough unless they adjust it;

Quote:

It's also possible to lose experience when killed. According to game director Gaute Godager, this won't drop you from one level to another, but it is possible for your progress to be brought all the way down to zero for your level if you're constantly getting killed. To further add to this mechanic's hardcore nature, you only gain a fraction (somewhere between one half and one third) of the experience for a kill compared to the amount lost for a death. Yikes.

So you are looking at maintaining a 2:1 or even 3:1 kill ratio just to break even and need highter to progress?

Has me a little concerned to be honest, seems overly harsh and is just going to encourage ganking and running away.

Yeah that does sound harsh, maybe its a mechanic to encourage team play, maybe discourage solo ganking? That is one thing about games and that developers are wary of is bad medicine, by that I mean a mechanic on the face of it seem unfair or harsh but in the long run manipulates game play for the better.

Its far easier to introduce such a mechanic at the beginning and remove it later if its no good than to add it much later to remedy a problem.

I hope your right Ford, considering my KD ratio on COD4 is so bad, I can only imagine the years i'd spend on level one if I had to keep a 4-1 kill ratio to advance. Evil or Very Mad

hmm maybe its a tad harsh however in my experiance with wow when doing group pvp youw ill allways get a truck ton of kills and minimul deaths unless you charge in on your won into unbeatable odds all the time

I dont think this will be bad if it stays aslong as like me peeps have a good survival plan e.g shoot the fuck outa the enemy from the back and the momment things go tits up leg it Very Happy

Well the ganking and running away is just gonna happen in any game but if your after a conan feel alsong as your with a group containing healers charging in like a maniac will be sure to be affective
