the windows 7 release candidate is available to everyone from may 5th from http://redirectingat.com/?id=92X363&url=http%3A//www.microsoft.com/downloads/
and suprisingly its valid untill june 2010 !!! which means you can have a free operating system for 12 months.....legally
anyone tried the beta?? i believe mrix was?
does anyone know, will the release candidate update the same as the retail version which is expected october?? what about anti virus and firewall etc, will the current avg and zone alarm work with windows 7. how about graphics drivers. if so then i'll be installing this on 5th may. hopefully cure my internet probs which still continue to annoy the hell out of me |

I've been using Windows 7 for many months now on this laptop and i have to say in comparison to XP and Vista its alot better.
A lot less memory usage then Vista, nicer to look at, easier to use.
Overall this is the operating system Vista was meant to be, don't get me wrong Vista has come along way since release but Windows 7 is vastly better in everyway shape or form.
In regards to drivers, i haven't had any problems finding drivers for all my components old and new, Windows 7 pretty much does everything automatically and rarely has problems finding drivers for anything.
Some programs such as Diskeeper aren't compatible yet but that's the only program I've had any problems with in Windows 7 so far, i use NOD32 anti virus and it runs perfectly, one of if not the best anti virus's available.
To be honest with you i was really surprised how stable and complete the beta is, usually you'd expect a few crashes, bugs etc, but i don't recall having any of that to date. |

Yes I was running it on a PC system that could only run XP, and it run fine
I was wondering what the speed could have been like on the system I run but will not try it until a full release is here.
When its released all gamers should definately make the step over as it does use far less resources
cheers

im running the 7100 build at the mo and ive got to say im very impressed , seems like microsoft has actually listened to the consumer and dumped all the crap from vista . this one is rock solid , and all my vista progs work . system hog has gone , games and graphics seem a tad sharper , i cant wait to see the retail version out , althopugh ive been told that this is pretty much the finished article ( 7100 ) |

anyone who wants this release can do so if they have got a beta key see below :
i recieved an email from microsoft, it saying that the release will be avaiable till at least june 30 2009 although ive been told its june 2010 . there is the opportunity to rollback to vista if you do the upgrade when its finished , but my release has no expiry date when i activated it , and there usually is , having tested beta versions of 98 , xp and vista suggesting that there is no firm date for recall. I suggest you use a beta key rather than the release keys that are going to be issued to be on the safe side .The fact that they are releasing this to everyone suggests to me that because of the the leak to torrent sites and usenet , they have pre-empted this move to at least get feedback on their product and possibly because this release may be considered to be an upgrade to vista , i.e vista service pack 3 , rather than a new operating system , and as such may be available on sale as an upgrade to vista owners at a cheaper cost , haing already bought a microsoft liscence
cheers

Windows 7 Release Candidate Announcement
Thank you very much for your help in testing the Windows 7 Beta. Your feedback is invaluable in helping make Windows 7 a high quality operating system. With your help, we have reached the next major milestone on the journey to Windows 7: the Release Candidate (RC).
- On April 30th, the RC became available to MSDN subscribers and TechNet Plus subscribers.
- On Tuesday, May 5 (PST), the RC will be available to everyone via our Customer Preview Program. As with the Beta, the Windows 7 RC Customer Preview Program is a broad public program that offers the RC free to anyone who wants to download it. It will be available at least through June 30, 2009, with no limits on the number of downloads or product keys available.
So you don’t need rush to make sure you get your copy. When you’re ready to download the RC, it’ll be waiting for you.
To get the RC please use one of the following links:
- Developers
- IT Pros/Microsoft Partners
- Tech Enthusiasts/Consumers
IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 7 Beta you’ll need to back up your data (preferably on an external device) and then do a clean install of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. After installing Windows 7, you will need to reinstall applications and restore your files. If you need help with the installation process, please see the Installation Instructions.
If you’re running Windows Vista, you can install Window 7 RC without having to back up and reinstall your programs and data. But to be on the safe side, please do backup your data before you start.
Please note: All users of the Windows 7 Release Candidate (including Windows Vista users who have upgraded to the Release Candidate) must do a clean installation of Windows 7 RTM. Please keep this is mind as you consider downloading the Release Candidate as opposed to waiting for the general availability release.
Thanks again for your help in reaching this important milestone. We hope that you will join us in testing the RC and finishing Windows 7!

unless you have usenet or torrents you cant download it till its released on may 5 on microsofts website and for all you beta key wanters theres only bout 10 keys anyway so mine is 4HJRK-X6Q28-HWRFY-WDYHJ-K8HDH or ive just got another from the website at microsoft TQ32R-WFBDM-GFHD2-QGVMH-3P9GC
it will work when you register , if you wat a copy of either the 32 or 64 bit one then pm me with your address and ill post you a copy tomorrow , ive got to send alonzos anyway , so its not a problem guys and saves the 3 gig download
ps the site for keys is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx its says the betais not avaiable for download but if you lokk below it still allows you to get a key by clicking on the go link |

wish i'd taken you up on the offer of posting a disc dog. at time of writing this i've spent about 3 hrs trying to make a bootable disc and get pc to boot from it
not sure whats going on,hopefully have it sorted soon. i've changed bios so 1st,2nd,3rd boot priorities are the dvdrw but just boots straight from hard drive anyway
says press f11 during loading screen to select device to boot from, but for some reason my 'f' keys do "f" all. they never have. |
