Hello all, I notice today for the first time we are seeing the pre-order launch for the New range of DX 11 Nvidia Cards
Will be interesting to compare prices, performances with the ATI cards.
Cheers

just read the above article. doesn't look good really. although drivers are early, it only reaaly equals the 5870, beats it in some games such as bfbc2,but looses out in others. loses out in all games to the 5970.
price wise its even worse, £410 !!!!!!! when you can get a 5870 for about £310 |

mmm reading that review it seems that that card is hot. noisy and overpriced...I think Nvidia have missed a beat tbh.

The HD 5870 remains a far better choice if you're a gamer |

OK, now the dust is settling there is a couple of key points here
Nvidia should really have delayed the launch due to low yields on the silicon (but they couldn't due to the lead ATI already have they have to throw something into the DX11 ring) - hence the cards not as powerful as they should be. To compensate somewhat they have crammed on the RAM.
I think the nvidia early adopters are asking fro trouble, however I think in a couple of months you will see some really nice Fermi cards coming out, when they have the right balance and the chipset is working correctly.
I though will stick with ATI for the time being - in the history of graphics cards its always one or the other that comes out on top with a really nice setup for a card and this round goes to ATI simple as that. I am sure that I could run 2 5850's in crossfire with less power and better peformance than one Nvidia card.
Ahh well at least it means there are 2 makes of dx11 cards out there - might make ATI bring their prices back in line with their original pricing structure - that really would fuck up the boys in green! |

To be totally honest for the price I would have been half tempted by ATI but there is no way I will throw money at a card thats going to get me into a game slow
Cheers

really wish this is a prob they would sort out. i'm using a 4870 which has coped admirably with any game i've thrown at it in the past 18 months, if only it'd load quicker.
I'm not loyal to any brand, whichever card offers best performance for the money is the one i'd buy. If i were looking to upgrade now, for £410 the nvidea certainly wouldn't be it. the prices are sure to fall pretty quickly, but so will ati's. in a few months you'll prob get a 5970 for the same £410 price, and thats a far superior card.
I think the guys in the nvidea marketting department have been sniffing the tipex thinners!!!! |

From looking around it does appear that way even though I notice the Nivida GTX480 appears to have far more ram than the ATI similer model.
Cheers

yes mate it is a dual gpu card. the 5870 is the direct competitor for the gtx 480. just read through another review http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/nvidia_gtx480/
they rate the nvidia above the ati.
as someone else said, for the same price as 1 gtx 480 you could buy 2 x 4850's http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Asus-HD-5850-PCI-E-20-(x16)-4000MHz-GDDR5-GPU-725MHz-1440-Cores-DP-2x-DVI-HDMI
and i'm pretty sure 2 of these would comfortably beat 1 x 480.
would be a difficult choice for someone thinking of upgrading in that price range (not bloody me ) i'd hang on for price drop, which is inevitable i think. |

Decided to take the bull by the horns and opt for the GTX480
" They say its gets hot under full load? " I say will I ever use full load ? and if I did the card is designed to be hot
They say its expensive ? I guess Nvidia have always been expensive but at the end of the day I have never once had issues with any of their cards so thats why I`ll stick with them, maybe a different story if this card lets me down
Performance wise for a single GPU it beats the ATI 5870.
My only real concern is the possible noise, I have seen a few youtube videos running the card to breaking point and yes its gets loud but generally I hope it not so bad through normal gaming load
Anyway I`ll be getting the video camera out as I normally do so i`ll give you an honest review very soon
Cheers
