Hmmmm Infact over the last week I have been complaining on the phone to virgin as my 20meg connection at peek times has been dropping down to anywere between 0.5-2.0 meg. After several arguments which include a free router i dont need but hey its new and being put through to an external company that wanted to charge me £15 an hout to remotely connect to my computer - lmao I told them were they could stick that one. I finnaly got them to agree the problem was not at my end.
But now my average speed seems to have increased from 17.5 tp 19.5. I wonder have you been stealing my speed mrix lol. |

Yes thinking about it the 20mb and below are known to be throttled in peak times
Fortunately the 50mb has no cap or throttling but its expensive
Cheers

I see no impact on my 20mb connection - downloaded Crysis the other night at peak time (6gb) in about an hour or so, so not that bad. tbh In general If I have a large download I normally leave the computer on overnight or during the day while I'm at work so it's not a problem. |

Don't phone them, they are shite. Use the forums, which I did when my speed dropped from the 9+ I could usually acheive from my 10mb connection, to 1 at the most. If you follow the post here:
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Fibre-optic-broadband-cable/Speed-Problems-Read-this-checklist-first/td-p/43763
and include the asked for info in your post one of the techie staff get back to you with potential solutions. In my case they could see my modem downstream SNR/RxMER was wrong and they gave me a choice of dates and times for an engineer to come out. I picked one (3 x 4 hour time slots on each day), he came, plugged in, and got me a new modem from his van. Yipee, 10mb again.
It's not an instant solution; it took a couple of days before the reply to my post appeared, but at least you dont spend ages on the phone, on hold, only to find you know more about networking than the idiot on the other end of the line (been there ) |

@ starsky, bloody hell mate, might be worth asking the postman to start carrying your packets for you! |
