Hello all, basically l2es-ElGordo has been getting a fair few connection problems on BFBC2, he has tried so many different things to try and remedy the problem but still with no joy Crying or Very sad many in the clan have given advise / idea`s that have not helped Crying or Very sad

I have decided to make this topic as a challenge to try and get to the bottom of ElGordo`s BC2 problems.

Hopefully Elgordo can update us on everything he has tried and we can put our heads together and see if we can come up with something?

Cheers

Having done some surfing I noticed many people were getting disconnects using routers.
Have you tried using a standard modem?????
Cheers

How about this?

Quote:

I changed SpeakerCount=2 in settings.ini and made BFBC2Game.exe to run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode. I didn't crash in 1 hour of gameplay but I don't know if it's completely stable yet. I have to test some more.

Edit: Atleast I didn't crash to desktop but got one white screen of death. I had to open taskmanager and kill BFBC2.exe.

Maybe try running it in DX9 if your using DX11 to see if this helps?

or this?

Quote:

I fixed this by doing two things, not sure which one did the trick:

1. Updated punkbuster manually (I have the Steam version): http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-bc2.php
2. Verified the integrity of my game cache (2 files were corrupted and fixed by steam). Do this by: right clicking on battlefiled in the steam library, clicking properties, clicking on the LOCAL FILES tab, and click "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE"

maybe this?

Quote:

I fixed mine by using the "Validate Local Media" option in steam. Steam then fixed six files and POOF it works. I don't know if that will help anyone else though but it's worth checking out.

Firstly .... I am genuinely touched by your post Mrix - imo this is what a clan should (and in our case, is) all about - thank you. I really could do with any further suggestions but I have tried quite a bit !! as you can see.

Here we go – you asked for it…….

As you probably know I have been playing BFBC2 exclusively since Beta and subsequently its first day of release without any problems up until approx 6-8 weeks ago. I am unsure if it coincided with the latest patch but it was certainly around that time.

I then started experiencing connection drops with the usual message “Connection to the game server has been lost. Please check your network connection and try again.” The drops were immediately preceded by a few seconds of my character being able to move/shoot but everyone else doing the “walking on the spot” thing. If I’m quick enough I can hit escape and quit the game; if not, or if it happens, as is sometimes the case, between rounds, I am forced to reboot the PC as it locks totally. Last night I only managed to get into game about 50% of the tries and each time I got in it locked almost immediately.

This problem can occur at any time from the “loading” screen when joining a game to any time during the game itself. The longest trouble free time has been around 40 - 50 minutes or so. I have never had a problem connecting to the EA server and my stats always update ok.

Hardware /software specifications
If there is more than one item for a particular type of hardware/software please see my attempts at a resolution below.
Zyxel Prestige 600 – BT Home Hub – Some black box I got from Sky ! ( apologies if I’m getting too technical here !)
All connected using CAT5 or 6
The game was purchased through Steam – I don’t have a copy on disk.
I use Windows 7 64 bit.

We have 2 different broadband connections in the house – One I use exclusively and is with BT the other I leave to the rest of the household to Facebook/MSN/download music on (in the hope that they may get arrested and leave me in peace), and is with Sky – both use separate BT phone lines.

The PC is based around a motherboard bundle I bought from Overclockers towards the end of last year.
Asus Rampage Gene 2
Intel i7 920
BFG GTX 295
6 gig Corsair Ram
Corsair 1000 PSU
Corsair 128 gig SSD
Velociraptor 250 (?) gig
Antec 1200 case
Onboard network connection – Belkin 10/100/1000 PCI network card – Bigfoot Killer Xeno Pro PCIe network card.
No virus software – Avast – AVG – Microsoft Security Essentials.

Attempted fixes ( if you’re still with me – brace yourselves, sorry !! )

Several complete reinstalls ( i.e. including formatting hard drive ) using both disks as primaries at separate times and trying both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows 7
ALL the combinations of routers on both broadband connections using 2 different network cables. Routers were set to factory defaults.
Resetting BIOS to factory defaults.
When I started trying the different network cards I disabled the on board LAN.
When I reinstalled Windows I updated it, installed Steam and BFBC2 but didn’t install anything else.
Tried running with and without “Run as Administrator” ticked on both Steam.exe and BFBC2.exe. ( Steam didn’t seem to like that )
I have tried with and without any firewall.
In order to check if it was a Steam problem I installed L4D2 which I can play forever, it appears, certainly a 4 or 5 hour session showed no sign of a problem and I played for couple of hours last night after giving up on BC2.
All drivers are up to date inc the BIOS.
The problem is the same on public servers as well as our own. In game my pings are ok – around 80-95.

Finally, in an act of, admittedly laughable, desperation I emailed EA – I am unlikely to try that again and certainly not before I have inserted a Scotch Bonnet Chili into my eye as I believe it would be somewhat less irritating. They only focused on EA Download Manager ports which I don’t believe is relevant as I don’t have it probably cos it's through Steam.

I am embarrassed to say that I don’t know the difference between a modem and a router but I think all 3 of the above are routers. If anyone point me in the direction of a suitable modem I’ll give that a go.

Cheers all

Elgordo, as mrix said above, pull your internet connection out of the back of the router and plug it directly into your computer (ie instead of a cable going from the modem to the router plug this cable directly into your computer), this takes the router out of the equation and if the game still crashes it is not a router problem.

btw If your not sharing your connection and only have one computer connected to the web via the router, you may not even need a router.

Not sure I'm getting this, sorry. Embarassed

The “box” I'm using atm is a BT Home Hub
It's got a wire going from the BT wall socket into it and a CAT6 going from it straight into my PC network card – plus power cable and that’s it

Are you guys thinking of a cable setup maybe?

mmm maybe I am Wink The home hub is the modem/router then and thus you have no separate router?

Basically a router is just what it is, it basically just routes broadband to different PC`s on your network.
A modem is just that and you will not be able to have any other PC`c connected to your network.

There are routers that are just routers, there are routers with combined modems or just modems on their own.

With virgin I have a modem first which is then connected to a separate router so I have both connected.

If you could get hold of just a basic modem somewhere to try.

Many routers are causing issues.
Cheers

As far as I am aware the BT HUB is a router / modem combined.

Maybe you can shut the router side of it down????

Cheers

I have 2 separate phone lines, one downstairs for the phone and sky tv and one in my study (OK not that Posh!) computer room. All I use is the sky modem plugged into wall, power and then connected into computer via ethernet. Sometimes the connection does get lost, but not on a regular basis.

Can the other computers in you house use wi fi?

If so try them with it and you just use the hard wire connection. On separate modems.

Just a thought.

I don't think so as I think they are all singing all dancing. tbh surely if it was modem/router hardware related Elgordo would be struggling to play anything. It's got to be settings or configuration???
