Battlefield 2 vs Battlefield 2142 - Some thoughts

Seasons Greetings everyone!

Having had the misfortune of picking up a viral chest and throat infection on Christamas Eve, and having to stay indoors as a result, the time has given me an opportunity to really give BF2142 a good blast - and compare it to Battlefield 2.

Pros - I really like the emphasised squad play inherent in the gameplay scoring. You advance up the ranks far quicker by helping the team with heals, repairs, defence, etc much more than in BF2. I like the smoother progression up the ranks, with smaller gaps in scores, as opposed to some of the massive leaps in BF2 (particularly from Gunnery Sgt). This very afternoon I got 600+ points in one round by obtaining 500 for the silver Engineer Excellence badge - you don't get that in BF2! The Titan mode is great where you can lay devastating firepower over the area whilst attacking the other Titan if its close enough, or repairing the on-board guns, thusa gaing points for both activities..

Cons - The futuristic approach isn't my cup of tea. Some of the vehicles and weapons are weird to operate (eg the rockets on the Walkers) - but then some of them are great (eg the sniper rifle with stabiliser and wow what a zoom)

Having said all that - which one do I prefer? Battelfield 2! - mainly for its hard-core gritty maps and gameplay. What do you lot think?

I like the new fresh 2142 but i do prefer BF2, altho i wouldn't play either now that i have Vegas and WoW to play =)

Hey mate, i gotta say that 2142 is good, bf2 is better, but personally vegas is the game of the moment, you just cannot beat the gameplay, and it is something a little bit different after over a year of BF2 style gaming!

Anyone who can run it should buy it!

Hi,

BF2 beats all the other battlefield games, sorry but i genuinely think so. I also think that the mod Desert Combat for BF1942 is better than BF2142. To be fair i prefer the Special Forces mod as its more people orientated and this might be the reason.

I agree about the co-op points scoring. I like the soldier maps and I am getting to like the extra kit upgrade selection. If not having hand grenades at the start is a bit odd.

I also like the way single player lets you try out new weapons and devices ( from your upgrades ) so you can try them out. Must be the best feature.

But.......

TITAN is poo a large pile of poo. There simply not enough people on the server to make it more than irritating. 40 odd people does not go with 5 missile site and two titans. if the titan was a main base complex at one end of the map it would work much better.

I read a review that said that the walkers where the first idea and the rest was created to fit around the idea. This was how he felt after playing the game not a quote from EA/Dice. I think this is possible if a little harsh..ish.
