Hi all,
My ISP (EuroFastHost) has recently been bought out by a company called 186K. Despite assuring us all that nothing would change, it has. My account got moved over at the weekend and my ping to the |2es server has gone up from 16ms to 250+ms which results in me being kicked off the server (probably a good thing as being 1/4 second behind everyone else is not going to go well). Just checked my ISP's user forum and it's full of very angry people having the same problem and getting no answers (on hold to support line for 3 hours now).
So in preperation for a switch, can anyone reccomend a good ISP. I want atleast 2meg and most importantly no download limit and a low ping.
Reccomendations?
Cheers, Don |

If you can get ntl or telewest(now virgin) then they are not bad.
I have a 10 meg connection with no limits and bormally get a ping of about 15-16 that works out at £31 per month.
It doesnt make me any better at BF2 but download speed is pretty slick.
They will provide it at 2 meg as well so it depends how much you wanna spend.
Ive not really had any probs with them but they have just changed to virgin so I may end up in the same boat as you but hopefully not. |

Cheers for the suggestions guys but Telewest refuse to connect me at my postcode (even thought I can see their box from my house!) and like Ghetto I've been down the AOL route before and never will again, so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

For me the most important thing with an ISP is the support, in theory when everything is running smoothly your ping should be very similar with all of the different ISPs you could potentially choose, what sets a good ISP apart is the speed and quality of the support to get you to this point.
From time to time everybodies internet will fail, something will happen and it wont work properly. If you can ring them midnight on sunday and they can sort it over the phone that is the right ISP to go for.
Personally i have had situations like this and Telewest have been excellent, but i know you cant get that. I am moving house soon and have been scouting around for an ADSL supplier since i wont be able to get Cable. Pipex at the moment are leading the charge, and i have heard no negatives about this company. Also try UKonline, they are supposed to be good i think with the lowest contention ratio for a home user.
Hope i have been of some assistance to you

Pipex are very good and support is excellent
if i didnt have such a lousy line here i would be with them no questions asked.
their packages are superb, uk based support (novelty), extremely reliable connection/rate |

Thanks again for the input guys. As it turns out this might not be a bad thing, as it's forcing me to have a good look around for a better offer. It appears I'm only 310m away from an exchange so a company called BE* are offering me 24Meg unlimited for £25 a month. Read nothing but good reports about them so far, so it's sounding tempting. If anyone has any experience of them please let me know.
Cheers, Don |

hello jibber i mean pumkin
im with pipex and although they have quite a s***e service they are a tier one isp = fasty connections.
they do have traffic shaping but so do all isps. those that say they don't lie.
its in their fair use policies but apparently the best atm is sky broadband (until all the little leeching w***es join and clock up the lines) |
