Is this cheating??

I can see what you are all saying, and dont get me wrong this is not something i would do, because like chaos i would feel bad, and only play bf2 for the great competition it is. I have never cheated at anything in my life. However the point i am putting forward that it is a bit strenuous to call it cheating as it is just a function that ea have missed off the options. If you have a red hot internet connection you are stealing the same sort of advantage over everyone else!

At stock value we are all playing on a slightly unequal playing field, as everyones ping is slightly different. This feature is there to level the playing field off, like it says in the article if people take it too far they will more likely suffer for it. So if anything this would make it more fair if only it was openly available to do!

This problem has been going on for years in a lot of games...... in a game I used to play "medal of honor allied assault" players would set there picmic settings so that it would take bushes away in the game etc, also players would use different game rates within game play which would would give them a fraction more of an advantage almost like a time displacement.
Like I say some players will tweak these settings to the point where they just dont get detected by punkbuster or what ever form of anti cheat is being used. In my mind this is cheating.
How many players do you know that have a problem with ping? most people these days in gaming are on fast connections anyway? but they are still changing game rates?

anyone played this game with setting bottomed out,no shadows little details and poor geometry and low res,i used to and it was hell of easy to see people that i guess in their eyes think they were in some leet dark and camoflagued place,that give me a definitive edge for sure,but who would class that as cheating.Now i have the settings maxed i dont make the same mistake,hence when i started playing i didnt think camoflague was an option so got good at ... dancing ! id take the risk of people not being able to hit a constantly moving target over some low setting oponent seeing me stick out like a sore thumb layed up in seemingly ,at my current setting nice spot,also being seen and shot at gives them away to me!just to clear up this setting hasnt changed my shooting at all,same lead same pull,just now when im clearly hitting people with puffs of smoke coming off them im getting rewarded with more X's,and seemingly i appear to be getting shot less after ive just ducked behind cover in sniper duels,to me it seems the long awaited fix to my biggest grievences,you all did watch the video? the guy point blank straff shooting guy in front of him and the bullets bouncing off?then when he starts shooting just behind him and puffs of smoke on floor in distance hes getting X's and hits?that clearly isnt right is it not?i would of thought a small bit of code that reads your current average ping and changes the paramiters to thier actual current values wouldn't be that hard to implement,and i kinda wonder why it hasnt been done.Another thing i see mentioned is super fast connection,i do not think there is a such a thing the interweb is as fast the fibreoptics that built it,the thing people are confusing are the bandwidth which make files down/upload faster as you have more Kb's going up and down,ping is actually ,as far as i was led to believe the time it takes for a signal(very small packet) to leave your pc travel the milage to the host server and come back,a 1 mb connection will have the same ping as 100mb connection it just cant handle as much bandwidth ,say a server with 64 people will need a larger bandwidth than a 10 player ,a low bandwidth connection trying to accomodate more data than it carry will give you and probably others playing with you lag.This is helluva noticable on things such as xbox live and halo2 where your forced to play with people living in america,a shotgun deull you seriously have to shoot a whole second or so before you need to,or get owned wondering WTF,Unless of course you get host and there all americans and if you die you probably were lighting up a smoke laughing at the noobs,hence the lack of server (ping) selection killed all enjoyment in that game for me

BF2142 also has the same settings:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Settings\Usersettings.con file

This is not cheating, just adjusting your settings according to your internet connection. After all, a game should register a hit where you point the weapon right? ... Reminds me of days fiddling with CSS settings to get my rates right.
