i would say that if u feel confident, build it urself, you will get a munch better pc for less money!
building a pc is very simple!

as for the pc your looking to buy the graphics card is good and the cpu is up to the job of a gaming pc but the 400w psu is a bit of a worry, i would recomend a min of 550w

You could probably get better if you built your own.

Ive priced mine up at just over £1000.00.

Go on to scan look for what you want add to basket and it save it for you (even when you leave the page) and total it all up.

If you didnt want to build it your self, Scan will do it for £70 and 10 days or just use yellow pages to find someone local, or DIY, either way Id say you would be better building you own.

I am preeeeeeetty sure that grim just wants to buy it off the shelf with a warrenty Smile

I wouldn't be concerned with the 400w PSU. I have a 400w and its rock solid stable (well as stable as any comp running 2142 can be Confused and if it failed just take it back thats the goodside of a boxed product.

I WOULD WORRY ABOUT THE MEMORY. grim you sound like the sort of bloke that just wants to buy a good computer and not worry about it again for a couple of years. don't think anyone would buy a comp with only 1gig these days. 2 gig seems the normal. i have 4 gig.

**** lets have a contest to see who can find grim the best off the shelf PC for a grand ****
no building or tinkering just a boxed product

I wouldn't stick with the 400w power supply... i'm pretty sure geforce recommend 450w minimum for that card and to be safe i'd have atleast 500w - 550w especially if you're gonna have alot of USB devices plugged in such as webcam, printer, phones, keyboards, mice ect or if you ever think of putting in say another hard drive or optical drive... i have a 350w and it just about runs my piece of shit 7600gs card.
Also, the ram... hmm 2gb would be better, but that is pretty quick ram! but yeah, usual gaming rigs today run atleast 2gb of ram.

Yep 400W is not enough mate, that will not be stable especially with a graphics card like that! Plus the difference between 1gb and 2gb of ram will be significant, 2gb is standard now really. Get 2 1gb sticks. Plus buy a hitachi hard disk they are better!

ok i have emailed the gadji back saying that i have conserns about the 400w power supply his reply was :-

Quote:
Hi Mate,

I can assure you that the power supply is more than adequate for this set up, if you use a good quality power supply with solid rails you don’t need such a high wattage.

However, if you do want to change, there’s a Zalman 460W available for £30 more, or a Zalman 600W Modular power supply available for £50 more (they RRP at £100).

Both are just as reliable, and silent in running.

i dont realy want to build my own pc nor at the moment do i have the extra money for the 460w or 600w one so atm i dont have clu what to do
if anyone would like to donate 50 pounds lol i wouldent mind!!

ONLY JOKING...???

truer words have never ever been spoken lol i love the idea i havent at the moment got the confidence to build my own computer the best i can do is put more ram in or a new graphics card anything else and it goes back to the shop lol

thanks for all your replys and thoughts on this matter any more would be wonderful!!

People say how easy it is to build a PC well thats fairly true but you can mess up like bend the pins on the processor or static damage a component etc Crying or Very sad or generally just break something and when spending that sort of money if you are not compedant at that sort of thing then its best to do what you are doing for piece of mind Wink
Sounds a fair price to me
and yes that power supply should be at least 450 watts Very Happy
Cheers

If I was you I would price everything up say from Scan.

Once you have your total, I would ring local computer places and see how much to build if you supply parts, I bet a mobil guy would come round to your house and charge about £50 -£100 ish for a build.

See if that helps keep to you budjet and maybe better spec PC.

Mine comes to about £1060.00 for a better set up.

See My PC thred last page for a list of my items.

Nah the power supplies ok for that setup. The E6400 only draws 60W, its one of the lowest power consumption chips made ever - almost half of P4 / AMD...
Also the 8800GTS is fairly low for power consumption, I think about 100 watts. Looks to me like you have a couple of hundred watts spare Wink

Yes I agree with webby, buy 2GB RAM, or you'll deffo regret it!

w00p!
