If you set your primary boot to cd drive then it will run the windows setup, or does this not happen? Plus it sounded last night as though you were having trouble connecting you hdd up, have you done that ok now??

Well lol this is starting to confuse me, the more people I speak to the harder it seems.
The only part of the Build I was not sure about is the wireing of the Hard Driver And Cd Drive.
HDD - Has a Sata Cable to the Boards & A Power Cable attached Thats It.
The CD/DVD Driver has a Power Cable and ribbon connector attached to it the blue one goes to the Main Board, the Black One (Main) goees to the CD and the Grey one (Slave) is doing nothing.
From what I have been told from Peeps, is that it sounds like a Bios Problem. and I have to set it all up to match My system. |

Hi,
First check the back of cd/dvd drive, make sure the jumper is set to master, then if your mobo has 2 ide slots check the 'ribbon' is in slot 1.
Now go into your bios, thier should be an option to check the devices are been recognized by your mobo,I cant remember what its called but will look something like ide 1, ide 2, then sata 1 sata 2 sata 3 and 4, hopefully you will see your cd and hard drive listed there. Next find the option somthing like 'boot devices'
If your using a floppy drive set this to device 1, then set cd/dvd drive to device 2 (device 1 if you dont have floppy) , then set your hard drive to device 3/2 if no floppy.
Also do you have your gfx card fitted? if you have whilst your in your bios find the setting related to video, and set to pci ex if it isnt already.
SAVE the settings of your bios and exit with your xp disk in the drive!
hopefully it will boot from the disk!
Hope this helps!!

maaaaaaaaate
you have taken the plunge into building a PC, despite what the 'savvy' folk will say its not childsplay for a learner.
you need to just ask one person as everyone will have a different slant on how to do things. a forum thread will no doubt lead to misery.
i hear you have been talking to mrix about it. i suggest stop making posts and pm mrix (or someone else) instead |

this seems very strange, I can't see why it would boot the first time then not again!
I would suggest the same as scunny, check ur bios to see if it is recognizing ur hard drive and dvd drive! double check ur conections, make sure every plug is pushed fully home, I had this problem when I fitted my sound card!
webby is right tho, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one and most stink!! |

Oh PC Building Cant be that hard, as yet (Touches Wood) I have had no MAJOR problems, just minor set backs, and how do you learn, by your mistakes, at least now I know I can do it (ISH) and should I need to fit, replace any items I know I can do it myself. |

All Good All Go.
Just updating windows, need to install everything again.
Should be worth it though.
Soon be able to get on TS. Not that I say much anyway.
Quick Question, When Patching BF2 do I need to DL all the patches or just one Big patch?
Will I need to Reinstall Special Forces or should the BF2 accout sort that, for the weapon Unlocks?
Any other tips to what I should be sorting now Im up and running with Net Access. |
