I was just wondering if anyone has sky broadband, I am thinking of changing to there, see (already have sky t.v) speak and suf package.
If anyone has their bradband package have you had any problems with it and how is their tec support? Also is the connection speed any better. I am currently using BT.
Thanks for the help. |

Hi Chunky,
My sister uses the sky broadband package, now I dont want to put you off cos I think all in all its an ok deal, But....just last week her wireless connection stopped working, her boyfriend and myself both had a look and couldnt find anything wrong on the pc so moved it into the next room where the modem is to try connect by the ethernet cable. Anywayz we had issues there aswell and come to the conclusion it was the router that was the problem, and later confirmed this with the help of a nieghbour who very kindly opened his router settings, and straight away we got a wireless connection through that!
Now back to sky , my sister rang there support...the first technition was impossible to understand and wanted us to go through the whole book of problem solving, and the dirrections they were giving had nothing to do with xp!!! After about half an hour this technition just hung up on us
So anouther phone call by my sister (who was getting slightly pissed by now!) and anouther technition who also wanted us to go through every single setting in windows xp!! We complyed while all the while trying to tell them we new the problem was the router, after TWO AND A HALF HOURS this technition tryed to tell us there shouldnt be a problem !!!!!!!!! and then proceeded to get in touch with the supivisor to see about getting a new router sent out! Well the phone call lasted over anouther half hour with varios messages been relayed from supivisor to technition to me sister, when she finnally gave up and asked if she could have the new router or not, to which the tech couldnt answer without the supivisor , so she said she would ring back!
So after four odd hours there was no joy and a very high phone bill wich could of paid for a few routers!!
So from this experiance the support is very shoddy, but her actual speed and connection is usually ok!
Thanx Gaz! |

With sky you still need to pay bt for the line rental and same probs here generally runs ok but if you do ever get a problem skys tech help is a joke and if its a router problem then they are even more hilariouse to get replaced than finding someone at sky who knows the first thing about ho a computer works.
I mean twice i had to tell the person advising me what certain parts of a computer were called as they kept getting even basic names wrong. |

Have had sky for about 2 months now and havent had any real problems , had a connection fault which I sussed out to be the router so just reset the router and no problems since and for only £5 a month not a bad deal really |

i'm also with virgin. only have basic 2meg package with tv and phone. i spoke to customer services the other day, was thinking of scrapping the tv package in favour of faster internet. he told me if i upgrade to the 4 meg speed at the end of december the speed for this package is going up to 10meg. and its only gonna cost me an extra 2 quid if we downgrade tv to medium package instead of large. they've lost a lot of customers to sky lately so i think they're having to try harder. |

yeh thats what i got ... 20mb.....and it goes like hot snot...
broadband is best thing virgin do.....tv packages are crap...on demand is slow and takes about 2 days to look through films.....it was better when it was NTL,ive heard that its going to be bought out again....

Unfortunately it has come to light on another forum I spam, I mean visit, Virgin are "traffic managing" our connections. I am on the large service (4 mb) and have not seen any strangulation of my connection...yet - here is the linky -

dont now how much playing on line use's but if its what they are saying and its just the top 5% than most people wont be effected , going to give sky 1 year and then relook at it , my ping is still very high compared 88 compaared to most that play COD4 of 45/55 , Im wondering if thats something to do with the Sky server rather than me |

Did you connect directly to the modem or are you wireless? If your using/sharing a wifi connection that could be your problem. |

didn't know that about virgin. should think this will only affect people who download a lot of music/vids/games from limewire etc. of course that doesn't include any of us |
