reg cure is a registry clean-up application that enables you to manage your start up programs, i disable all when online gaming - this program enables me to turn programs on and off easy ---- just pick the programs you want running or not and just start pc again --

There is a charge for this program (full activation), allthough you can still dowload the program and manage your start up programs with out any fees at all.

i dont know of any other easy ways, so will be watching this post for better ways if any

good luck ---- |2es- =sas=born=killer=

Personally I Ctrl/Alt/Del to task manager and just turn all the non-essential running programs off. I run Vista which is already hungry and even if i forget and just let a few programs run extra it can ruin my games.

If you've not done that before just turn off all schedulars( i-tunes / realplayer etc ) and anti-virus spyware etc and check any unrecognised programs in google to see what they do. or turn them off and see if your computer still works Twisted Evil

Im using Norton antivirus and Norton firewall with Windows firewall disabled and i get no online gaming problems what so ever,if you want added security get a router.I presonally wouldnt disable antivirus...try configuring it instead to allow the application to run.

if you go to start----all programs------accessories----run.

Then type msconfig and press enter.
Click on the start up tab.In here is all your programs that run when windows starts up. just untick the ones you dont want and click apply when done. some windows programs need to be left ticked just google it and you'll find which ones that is.

Cheers crewey

Remove Norton - that is a definite - make sure you do it correctly - as it leaves a lot of files about - there is a file on the net norton windows removal utility that does the job.

Once you have got rid of it then bang on AVG it is the nads. For antivirus use Avast or something similar again its free and does the job.

Hey Guys,
Im using a smart little program at the moment called Arrow
Tweak Vista
Its only a 30 day evaluation and then pay to keep it, but its got some smart features, one been 'Save as much ram as possible' as well as turning off startup programs and stopping processes!
There are loads of free programs like this out there , process explorer is another good un to tell you what each process is and if its needed and a great one I used with xp was called 'end it now' or somthing simular!
Thanx Gaz!

I love Avira's AntiVir, running the free personal edition at home and have it installed on our network at the office. Low resources taken, and came top at success rates in a couple of online AV roundups I've seen (Which was what got me to try it in he first place)

Also, for a good free firewall, Comodo has never let me down. I pay for one called Agintum Outpost, which i've used for the last 5 years, but Comodo has been good when used on any other home machines I've had

Whatever you do, do not disable your firewall while connected to the net. I dont know who gave you that advice, but I guarantee their machines were screwed
