As long as you applied thermal paste you should be fine. If your into fine detail visit the Manufacturers website and see if there are any drivers and bios updates specific to the mobo chipset other than that m8 crack on and OC the bitch! |

You don't need new drivers but thermal paste is essential, along with a decent cooler (the supplied fans are normally pretty poor) |

Yup some sort of thermal compound will keep the temperature down drastically, but only use a tiny bit, like half the size of a grain of rice otherwise too much will make it worse. |

was it an OEM processor? i've just bought one myself. they come with nothing. you have to buy a heatsink/fan and thermal paste yourself. dude don't use it without a heatsink it'll overheat especially in a game. take a look at the advice for rogue thread, starskysdad put a link to a good cooler on there. |

Should you be worried - YES, you should be man!
God knows what damage you may have done to your CPU and/or mobo by now.
Thermal paste joins the CPU and heatsink together- this allows the heatsink to properly withdraw the heat coming directly from the CPU.
There are many websites that give instructions showing how to apply thermal paste. here's one:
http://www.techpowerup.com/printarticle.php?id=134
Applying Thermal paste to your CPU and heatsink is a MUST! |

Also, i dont know what difference in heat generation there is between a single and dual core, i'd be a bit worried there too. Unless you "know" for certain the old cooler is rated high enough for the new cpu, i would buy a new decent one straight away, last thing you want is the cpu to melt! |

Your CPU must have a heatsink/fan on it, or your CPU will overheat in a matter of minutes. It wont take long for that thing to reach 100 degrees as a CPU puts out about 100-150W nowadays. The same will happen if you attach a heatsink but with no thermal paste. You'll know if you got it wrong, the PC will lock up within minutes of booting, or goto blue screen, or just fail while loading windows.
If you buy your CPU in a box, you will get an intel heatsink. This is fine, and before you mounted it you may have noted it had a gray blob on the underside. This is the thermal paste that ensures good contact between CPU and heatsink. If you bought your heatsink by yourself and attached it, then most come without thermal paste and you must buy some and apply a very thin layer between the heatsink and the CPU. Something like this is what you need:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Silver-3-5g-Thermal-Paste/dp/B0002VFXFE
For now, just open up your PC case and see if theres a huge metal shiny block witha fan on the CPU. If so, thats your heatsink. Under it, there will be some gray gloop,. Thats your thermal paste. If any of the above are missing, fix it quick before your CPU becomes toast!!! |

Do you knwo what the name of the old cooler is? It 'may' be up to the task of cooling your new cpu BUT if its not, it needs replacing as it will only stave off the inevitable melt down. As i said, if your not sure, err on the side of caution and bang in a new cooler (with paste). |
