I found this article :
A new update released for space-based MMO Eve Online has broken Windows XP.
According to reports, numerous players downloaded the update - named Trinity - that arrived in the wee hours of this morning only to find it overwriting the operating system's boot.ini file, an essential system file.
The update, which introduces new features to the MMO and includes a graphics overhaul, was provided in three forms - Classic, Classic to Premium and Full. It's the upgrade from the Classic client to the Premium client that has been identified as causing the problems.
A post on the official Eve Online forums offers advice to players whose PCs have been knackered up by the update, and the development team has said "We are working on a solution for this and will have more information as soon as it's ready".
Whoops...
