Hey Guys

If you have wondered where i have been hiding I seem to developed a computing issue which i am struggling to resolve. Sad

My computers internet went down the other day and I was tryuing hard to resolve the problem.

During my process I turned my computer of to reset and reboot, only problem now is I cant restart it.

It does a memory search when it comes on but then its says ' disk boot failure, insert memory disk'

I have tried an F8 start up but no avail, Im stumped I cant think what to do, bar get an engineer. Im not that clued up on computers.

Any ideas?

Cowboy Very Happy

mmm are you using XP by any chance?

First go to the BIOS and check the boot preference and make sure the HDD is the 1st preference.

Do you have the operating system CD? If so you could try a repair.

Also it might be worth checking the HDD cable connections and the jumper pins.

make sure you dont have a floppy disk in when you're booting btw. Most of the time when I get that message with users at work, its because they are restarting the computer when a floppy disk is in the drive

Thanx for everyones comments although at the minute to know avail!!

I do not even have a floppy drive Nitro so that was kinda ruled out straight away.

Problem was I installed windows through an alternative source so I cant exactly perform a recovery on the existing windows, Iv checked all wiring and that seems to be fully functional and finaly I set the bios to enable my hardrive as my primary bio but still it comes up with 'boot failure, insert memory disk'.

I think Iv either somehow damaged the harddrive or windows, either way im not sure how to find this out!

I was on XP anyway and at some point I was always gona upgrade to vista, I never really had that much saved on my harddrive cos all I ever used on it was games and net use.

Im wondering if I wiped and re-installed from the start with vista, if i could just start from scratch, although I dont wanna do this is I can just recover it!!! Sad

Im lost without my computer, i need some BF2 time!!! Crying or Very sad

i would says your master boot records have been currputed by a virus or something

i recommend you do a fresh install of xp before you try vista

also as brune say check the boot set up incase it;s been changed to cd if so make it
hd first

also is it seeing all the installed ramm

ifnot pull one of the bars of ramm and then try booting

clean install too xp ftw also repairing windows normally screws up anyways no games work or drivers and the registry is normally al funky too

so better just reinstalling

as for clearing the cmos 2 ways to do it depending on what board you have

1. you may have a cmos reset jumper on your board just turn off the pc and change the jumper normally a 3 pins with cmos reset written beside
or below it

if you dont have the jumper setup

2. just pop the battery out for 10 mins and put it back in

but you will need to reset all bios setting to what they where as it goes back to default on both options

i.e the time and raid settings

so if you done any o/cing you will need to fix all the settings

if you need any help just ask my msn addy is in the bf2 private setion

Peace Out

Gerry

I can do a re-install of Windows Xp but it is not the original that I had on it.

Will this matter?

Sorry Toolz, not true. A retail key will not work with a OEM cd, and vice versa. Same applies to volume license keys.
