Using Vista:
switch off Superfetch, had that same problem, but this fixed it:
Right click on 'Computer' from the Start menu. select 'manage', click continue. on the left side make sure Computer Management (Local) is selected, then open 'Services and Applications', 'Services'. scroll down until you see 'Superfetch' in the list and right click on it to select 'Properties'. In the 'Startup Type' box, choose Disabled.

That should be superfetch outta the equation i.e. free up all your RAM for the programs that you are using.

If your using XP, then you've either got to many things running in the background or you dont have alot of RAM i.e. 256MB or less.

I tried that but so far - the same problem...

Any other ideas from the esteemed BF2142 community?

It's just a flaw with EA's crappy code in 2142 but unfortunately it happens more with Vista then XP. They have been trying to fix it since release which was god knows how long ago, but have never succeeded because its EA lol everyone knows they always rush out games then never fix the bugs etc.

Also before starting the game, go into services and shut down all unnecessary apps that are running in the background. I had to do that and still do for COD4.
Amazing how many progs run from startup.

I used to have a memory error most weekends *read blackouts*. I removed "pisshead2.0", installed "Wife1.0" and haven't had the problem since Embarassed
