Global Punkbuster ban.

Tried to fire up BF2 earlier. After taking an age to verify client data I was kicked from several servers with the message "Global Punkbuster GUID Ban".

Could this be down to not playing for a long long time and trying to play under a new account as I cant remember the password for the old one and don't have that email anymore either?

I looked under your name on the punkbuster bans list and it isn't there.

Did you try to get on the res server????

Or was the message just given on other servers

I wouldn't think they would ban you for lack of use. I didnt play for about a month and never got anything like that.

Was just a random 'Play Now' as I wanted to see if I was patched up to date. I'll try get on the 2es server in a bit if that would give better info.

If you click on "Play Now" i believe it just connects you to the last server you ever played on.

I think Madtoolz had a similar problem at some point, he was getting the banned message but he wasn't on the list. I'm not sure what he did to resolve it but it might be a good idea to get in touch with EA or PB.

the madtoolz had is that if your running an instant messaging program like msn in the background then ppl can hack into the game thru that...it then says youve been banned when you havent..

Not tried to log in as doing a reinstall and repatch to make sure everything my end is right first.

..edit..

Same message when try to log into 2es server after reinstall and patch. Full message as follows;

"Punkbuster permanent ban issued on this game server for player KopMcG1nty ... GLOBAL punkbuster GUID BAN xxxxxxxx"

Guess it's a case of contacting Evenbalance and hoping I can sort it out with them.

Alias searches alone should not be used to determine if a player is cheating as players may be the victim of name-spoofing.

GUID searches are the most reliable method.

I've put a ticket in with Evenbalance. Have to just stick with COD4 for now.

Wow that sucks, EA / Dice really need a kick up the arse, they openly admitted that they have no idea if you were the culprit so why can't they just unban your account and let you play? or give you another CD key or something? money grabbing whores tbfh.

Kop if you really want to play BF2 mate, i'm sure i could dig out my CD key for you, i never play BF2 so its a bit of a waste.

thats the standard response from ea and to be fair they arent going to unban someone just because they say it wasnt them

do you know what ip was used?

Yeah it's annoying as I fancied an alternative to CoD but I understand the reason.

So if someone stole your credit card and ran up a huge debt, you'd understand if the bank didn't give you your money back?

If they're running a program that can stop people playing, they owe it to the customers that bought the product to protect them from this sort of thing, and should have the means to investigate and prove either way.
