There's a new virus (sort of) doing the rounds and its a real goodun.
Firstly this isnt a hoax - trust me i know having spent 3 hrs trying to retrieve my kid's uni work and my office trying to sort some numpty's PC
it comes as an attachment to emails (possibly greeting card or msg from DHL but maybe others) and also via peer to peer progs - msn/facebook/limewire(types)/hookey dvd or tv series downloads etc
its called Antivirus XP 2008 and its very clever - if you get a screen saying you have spyware etc dont click anything - try and save any info you have photos etc because our IT dept has had no sucess whatsoever in cleaning it. they tell me that EITHER WAY you need a reinstall but if you click anything at all it locks the PC up making it impossible to save any files.
i dont usually get involved in these things cos 99% of the time they're hoaxes - this one isnt - straight up

I got it and it basically took over my pc and took away the admin rights.
The only way I was able to fix it was to get somebody to wipe my pc and reinstall windows and everything.
It was an absolute nightmare trust me.
Whoever made this one is one sad m*****f****r.
Good luck I hope you get your stuff back. |

This begs the question why?
Why do people go out there way to create such a virus, what do they gain from creating such a piece of coding? the answer = nothing! so why?
Certainly keeps companies like Norton in a job for sure. yeah, but if people didn't create viruses, we wouldnt need to add another problem layer to our operating systems.
Seriously, these 'people' need shot and done away with, simple as. |

It also comes under the name (MS)antivirus, I know this as my bruv went on youtube when i was at work and when i came back he woz in a panic cause my machine woz beeping and yelling at him and guess wot he clicked (cant blame him i would of too), spoke to a mate who says he has had it and so have a good few of his clients and his advice was to download www.malwarebyte.org and also spyware seek and destroy.
Trying this now will update if this works guys. |

theres one doing the rounds for vista , its similar and you get a screen constantly on place of your ususal wall paper which tell you you need a new antivirus program and it hijacks vista , you cant remove the wall paper and if you click anywhere it goes to this website for this program , took me a re-install to get rid of it even though my daughter has avast and spyware docktor , so much for av programs !! |

The only Anti virus i use nowadays is NOD32, takes up hardly any system resources and picks up everything (Viruses, Malware, Spyware, dodgy websites etc), before i was using avast but in comparison Avast is pretty crap.
NOD32 suite which also has a half decent software firewall + Disk keeper 2008 = Win.
If any of you are using Norton or Mcafee of any kind you need to be shot lol. |
