Monthly subscription. Its not a twitch game though, you set your ships course, activate weapons and defenses etc but you dont manually fly or aim your weapons.

That said it is IMO at least, just about the only MMO out there actually worth paying for. It offers massive amounts of freedom, you actually can do pretty much what you want. If you want to be an "evil griefing pirate" type, looking for oplayers to blow up, you can. If you wanty to avoid pvp, there are large swathes of secure space where you are "quite" safe.

Thats the other thing, Eve is a challenging and sometimes brutal game world, no where is completely safe, lots of the players are just looking to kill anyone for any reason. It also has harsh death penalties, your ship gets bnlown up that it, it and its equipment are gone. You can and usually should take out insurance in game to get a fair amount of the value back though and life threatening situations can almost always be avoided/escaped from once you know what your doing.

Just to add, any of the points i've made that sound negative, like the death penalty for example, are actually plus points for me, the fact its a tough world makes achieving things very rewarding and the consequence for dyuing etc means you actually do get an adrenalione rush .

Its can be time consuming but in depth, challenge and reward it blows the likes of EQ and WoW out of the water.

I think 8 million people would disagree with Eve blowing WoW out of the water comment. Get to 70 on WoW and nothing compares to the end game content on it.

Eve is a good game but for newcomers to MMO's its pretty hard to pick up and play unless you are given a ship and stuff like that, when you first log in it looks so damn complicated, that alone must put alot of people off.

Only thing i can really compare Eve to is the old classic Elite or Elite 2 on the Amiga but even then i would rather play Elite.

Don't forget that most decent MMO's like WoW and Eve have 14 day trials so download them and give them a go but remember neither of them will be as in depth as the full versions because obviously the trials have limitations like level caps.

It all depends what ur into, if you'd rather spend all day mining astroids, trading and blowing up ships then Eve is ur game, if you'd rather level an Alliance or Horde character and group up with people and do massive dungeons, levelling 2 main professions, fighting against Alliance or Horde in huge outdoor enviroments or in huge battlegrounds with upto 80 people with magic, or weapons then WoW is ur game.

Either way there is a bunch of us playing either game so if u do play one or the other give us a shout and make sure u join our servers if you want some help Razz

Each to their own Cyrus and like you say its cool that |2es has a presence in both.

though just to mention, all the things WoW has, Eve does too. You can have multiple tradeskills if you like, specialise in a one or two, train up loads of them or none at all., there are massive pve 'dungeons' that need teams to do on to[p of the pve content for soloing. Oh and the pvp is far better IMO, open ended rock paper scissors ert. Eve pewpew is cool. Smile

8 million people just shows having your hand held is a popular passtime! Wink Rolling Eyes Laughing

Im sure eve has some great stuff about it like cyrus im a wow player and tbh its sorta got a kind of above game sense to me it feels like a real world like a matrix of some sort.I was kinda shocked when i saw an ign review off it thinking wtf you cant review wow.

Gearing up in wow is great and lvling to 70 realy aint very hard some crazy addicts can do it in a good 2 1/2 weeks Razz.Obviously eve and wow are vastly diffrent what with eve being set in space with ships and all.

When it comes to pvp in wow yes you dont lose your stuff or realy ahve any danger when you die (unless your on a pvp server like us and sometimes have a huge corpeswalk with a chance you may get ganked as soon as you ress Razz)

The diffrent bgs are great such as capture the flag conquest or a mixture of the 2.Pvp requires a huge ammount of skill/effort to succeed and is vastly diffrent depending on class but imo the balance is pretty much perfect atm accept maybe the deadly combo of healer+ warrior in erenas.

One thing i will say is wow is a much faster paced game as it sorta kick starts within the first 10 lvs and with a freind becomes addicting from the start. Like cyrus said once you get to 70 there is a HUGE ammount of stuff to do and when your in a good guild doing 20 man raids and it all goes well theres no greater achievment feeling for me.

I used to use http://www.shatteredcrystal.com/code.php/eve_online

https://shop.battleclinic.com/index.php?currency=GBP&cPath=24

Sure there are others but I have not looked at them for a long time so no idea where is best value etc. Never had any trouble with the ones linked above when I used to use them myself though.

..edit..

Here is the list of official partners for gtc's;
