Hello...Could someone pass along some ideas for video card upgrades. I am currently running a GeForce 5500 which will run BF2 at the lowest settings but I would like to run BF2 at a high setting, but not break the bank at the same time. Any suggestions? |

Yeah forgot to include that...
I am at work so I dont have my system here, but I believe I am running a P4 ~2.4, with 1.5G of RAM. I think my current card is a GeForce FX 5500. It runs good at a low setting, but if I move up to Medium its gets pretty choppy. |

im going to guess u havnt upgraded to pci-e yet? my brother had a system similar to urs. he had 2.8ghz proccessor and 1gb of ram. he also had a geforce 5600 i think. i gave him my old radeon 9800XT 256MB and the difference was unbelievable. if ur not ready to upgrade everything now becuase of cost, getting a decent gfx card may sort you out so u can run bf2. personally i would spend £100 - £150 on a mid range gfx card now to tide u over as i think u would run bf2 fine then. and then save ur money up and go the pci-e route in 6 months or so. |

You can get some good deals on gfx 6600's now and providing you get the 256mb version your sorted I was running bf2 on its release on one of those at the highest setting with no "choppiness". I moved to an SLi array with 2 7800gtx cards and to be honest the difference isnt amazingly different although i probably wouldnt go back now as its awesome in other areas too |

I am pretty sure my motherboard has an AGP slot. But was more or less looking for the best deal. Do you suggest I get an AGP card? |

Ok so I found an GeForce 6600 256MB card, but it states it is an PCI Express card. Will it still work if my motherboard does not support PCI express? |

the card you linked to isnt the one i was talking about, that one is the 9800 pro. and as stated above u need a pci-e mobo to run a pci-e gfx card. so what ur after is a decent agp one. check out ebuyer, dabs, scan etc. also if u use ebay u may get a bargain on there. |

stay away from the 9800 pro I've just upgraded from that as it keep crashing the game. Go for a GFroce 6800gt you can get one on ebay for about £150 You must get a AGP card if that is what your current one is unless you have a dual board which have only come out in the last 6 months or so supporting both PCI express and AGP graphics cards.
The 6800 gt is very stable and I have not had any graphic card related crashes! If you can afford it buy some one gig sticks of ram, Upgrade to 2gb cost me about £150 quid this will improve the game also! ( but check what pin set it is before you buy it as a lot of places will not take back memory!
Good luck ! |
