Trouble is, the league table above is supposed to be for resolution 1280x1024. Ghetto's, Fitz's and mrix's monitors won't support that by the looks of things, so their scores are artificially high.
If you have a strage resolution, such as 1280x768, and want to calculate your 3D mark based on 1280x1024, the simplest way to do it is multiplying by the ratio of pixels between your res and the test resolution.
ie:
1280x1024 = 1,310,720 pixels
1280x768 = 983,040 pixels
now divide the two pixel values:
Your res (pixels) / Test res (pixels) =
983,040 / 1,310,720 = 0.75
Now multiply your 3D mark by that number to get the result you would get if you ran at the test resolution.
7958 3D Marks * 0.75 = 5969 3D Marks
Sounds crap huh? Well, the amount of pixels your video card has to push through will directly affect the 3D mark. Unless you can re-run your test at 1280x1024 resolution, this ratio way is a simple method to approximate what you'd get at that res. Its not 100% accurate (esp for higher end cards where you are CPU limited, not GPU limited), but the closest you're gonna get without re-running the test. |

1440 * 900 is 1296000 pixels
1280 * 1024 is 1310720 pixels
- the numbers are pretty much exactly the same. Expect a very slight drop in your 3D mark if you ran at 1280*1024. But 1280*768 for instance, theres a big diff. You're only rendering 3/4 of a screen |

I ran the test again at 1280 * 1024 and I got 7315, your logic is sound but the premise is floored it is not just the amount of pixels that you push through, also my cpu is pretty good I am not using it to its fullest yet though i am running 32 bit OS, will get vistax64 when it ships. As you can see I did not drop too much , I defiantly need those two new cards now
b.t.w. I usually run that resolution as my main screen( i have two), It is a 30inch wide screen HD monitor and that res is the best picture. I ran this test on my normal 20inch screen. |

yeah, after I posted that, I found some 3D mark scores on the net at various resolutions and found out that formula was a lot of crap!... It holds true for slower cards where you are purely GPU limited, but not newer ones which are so fast, the memory / CPU / busses become the bottleneck. Soz!
However, do not guys, the resolution affects your score, so ghetto - dood you better re-take the test at the proper resolution mate You'll still be on top, just not by quite as far.
Me I suck, I get 4212 even at 1280*1024

LOL Cant wait to see Geordies and see if he can top jackrabbits! Hey Jack what system are you running???
Would be interesting to compare to Geordies! I take it you are water cooling by you avatar? Did you buy a stock water system or build it yourself? What temps do you get with it?
My place in the leaderboard has gradually slipped away!

Without any tinkering.
8735
What would I be looking to do to increase this score.
Ii presume OC ing the processor would help? |

I was thinking about upgrading to an 8800 card but at the moment I don't think the difference is worth the money
here's my spec
cpu amd 64 fx60@2.6
MB asus A8N-32sli deluxe
gpu 2x asus 7900GTX in sli
2gig corsair twin x ram
x-fi elite pro sound card
2x36gig WD raptor in raid 0(gaming drive)
74gig WD raptor(system drive)
300gig maxtor(storage drive)
560watt hyper type r psu
250watt thermaltake sli psu
I was air cooled with this system but it got so hot that if I pushed it too hard it would crash, it was running at 55 - 60 degrees on the cpu
then my girlfriend got me the thermaltake kandalf LCS case with built in water cooling, after setting this up I found that the case was great, fits all my bits in fine, but the watercooling was rubbish, so I ripped it all out and fitted a half inch system that cools the cpu and both graphics cards using danger den and GK water blocks, the cpu now runs at 35 degrees and the graphics cards at 30!
after fitting this I found that the lack of air flow in the case made the motherboard run hot, so I made a separate water system which has 2x voltage regulator coolers a north and south bridge block plus a hard drive cooler, now the MB runs about 40 degrees!
the whole system is very quite and looks the business!

Well great minds think alike lol! That is nearly the exact system i have! Can you believe it!
I too have an FX60, 7900GTX factory oc to 675mhz, Same Mboard Asus A8N32, 2gb ram etc only thing is i didnt bother with the raptors, i went down the SATA II route and i have to say i do get into game extremely quickly, the disk is really fast! Nearly built my own water cooling system, with Danger Den block too! How strange is that! But i worked it out and it was guna cost me around £380, that was for a decent pump and 1/2 inch pipes, triple radiator, but i wasnt gunna bother water cooling the graphics card.
Do you use water or Fuid XP? I was gunna go with Fluid XP just didnt like the thought of water, however stupid that sounds!
Are you not tempted to OC your FX60 at least to like 2.8, since you have water?
Like i said great minds and all that! So it looks like Geordie will have the crown then by the sounds of it, those 8800GTX in SLi with his processor will be hard to beat for a while! Well until the 8900GTX or R600 come out!
Nice system jackrabbit!

that is a bit strange, good set up in its day but know the 939 system is dead! can't upgrade anything apart from gpu with out replacing the lot!
yeah gordie will be able to knock me off the top with no trouble!
sounds like you were looking to spend a bit much on watercooling should be able to build a nice system for 200 quid tops, I will supply a link for you when I get home!
I have had my cpu @2.85, had it for about a week but I thought it was powerful enough as standard, when I starts to lag behind I will push it, should be able to get over 3gig with not too much trouble!
I use thermaltake coolant in my system, water is bad, you get limescale inside radiator plus blocks!
I agree with you u don't really need gpu blocks, unless you are going to seriously OC them!
building your own watercooled system is definatly the way to go! going to start planing my next system as soon as I upgrade my gpus, going to get rid of the case all together, build it into a desk, something a bit different?
I will post some pics of my system later |
