Quote:

The world of Hyboria, crafted by Robert E. Howard and other writers, is basically a fictional version of Earth thousands of years ago. As a result, there is a lot of ground to cover. In Age of Conan, we’ve focused on developing regions found within the three nations of Aquilonia, Cimmeria, and Stygia, as well as the Barachan Isles.

Quote:

Age of Conan is based on zones. We’ve built a world that’s packed full of detail. For example, with enough graphical horsepower, trees and grass can move in the breeze, ships can bob on the ocean, and so on. In addition to the performance reasons, there’s another very good reason to make a zoned world. Hyboria is based on Earth itself, and you may have noticed that Earth is rather big! We wanted to take you to some of the locations from the book, not necessarily all the other places in between. Therefore, we chose to focus our design on making engrossing areas packed with all the things you remember from the books.

Quote:

There are dozens of different zones (or regions, as we call them). We’ve chosen specific areas chosen from Aquilonia, Stygia, and Cimmeria, and you’ll cross burning deserts, freezing mountains covered with snow and yetis, great cities, and all sorts of other places. We’ve picked these regions specifically because they are major centers of the Conan lore.

Quote:

There will be some form of “travel time,” be it a loading screen with an indicator of your progress, a caravan/boat/horse trip, or some combination of all of those. Often, the regions in Age of Conan can be far apart, and it would require a lot of running to get from point A to point B, so we’ve focused on fun over authentic travel.

As you can all see, there is room for expansion Wink

Remember mook that initially it will be only be regions within the nations of Aquilonia, Cimmeria, and Stygia, as well as the Barachan Isles that will be in-game Wink

But the world map does give plenty of "expansion" room!

Great Tarts Arsepipe? Razz The world of Conan has nothing to do with Asgard, which is from Norse mythology.

Why's that place up the top their called Asgard then?

Guilty by association i'm afraid..

Honest question though.. is it worth me buying if i only spend like 3-4 hours a week on it, or am i gonna keep getting shafted by a 16yr old chink that weighs 3 stone cause he hasn't moved his arse from his desk and plays 168hours a week?

lol fair point. a few of us will be playing beta from thursday onwards and will let you know. Honestly though MMO's are real life stealers and before you know it you are our far eastern friend Wink Also remember that you will be paying a monthly sub for your 3-4 hours.

lol! the fact that you are on a forum and teamspeak most days playing online games, with lets face it a lot of strangers, makes you a geek by default.

Now i'll chain up the rottweiler that is mook, who let him loose anyway? Wink

Bottom line - anyone reading this is a geek Razz

mmm let us investigate this important point further

Consulting the oracle that is www.urbandictionary.com we find the top 5 definitions for each are...

Nerd

1. One whose IQ exceeds his weight.
2. An individual persecuted for his superior skills or intellect, most often by people who fear and envy him.
3. An 'individual', i.e. a person who does not conform to society's beliefs that all people should follow trends and do what their peers do. Often highly intelligent but socially rejected because of their obesssion with a given subject, usually computers. Unfortunately, nerds seem to have problems breeding, to the detriment of mankind as a whole.
4. A stereotypical label used to describe a person that is socially inadequate. A four letter word, but a six figure income.
5. A person who gains pleasure from amassing large quantities of knowledge about subjects often too detailed or complicated for most other people to be bothered with.
Often mistaken for Geeks, who aspire to become nerds, yet lack the intelligence, and end up giving nerds a bad name due to their poor social skills.
Non-nerds are often scared of nerds, due to their detailed knowledge, and therefore seemingly high levels of intelligence - and subsequently denegrate them as much as possible as often as possible.
Nerds exist covertly within the fabric of society, often choosing to 'nerd it up' in private or in the company of fellow nerds. It is for this reason they are feared the most - unlike geeks, who are easily identified, nerds can only be found out when casual conversation reaches a subject that they like nerding.

Geek

1. The people you pick on in high school and wind up working for as an adult
2. The term "geek" originally referred to the carnival performers whose act consisted of biting the heads off chickens and eating glass. Over time it came to be applied to anyone who got paid to do work considered odd or bizarre by mainstream society.
The term now enjoys a special status within the technical community, particularly among particularly knowledgable computer programmers. To identify oneself as a "geek" indicates a recognition that most people still consider programming computers to be a bizarre act, along with a certain fierce satisfaction in being very good at their inglorious profession.
That most software geeks now easily earn twice as much as the average laborer just sweetens their defiant embrace of the term.
Note: Unlike the word "nerd," which is always pejorative, "geek" often carries a positive connotation when used by one of the group. The use of the term by outsiders is considered insulting.
3. Not to be confused with Nerd. A geek does not have to be smart, a Geek is someone who is generaly not athletic, and enjoys Video Games; Comic Books; being on the internet, and etc.
4. It doesn't seem to refer to 'computer programmers' as much as it once did when computers weren't so damn cool handy. Geeks are pretty much people who have a real understanding for a certain topic eg Films, music, cars. It's usualy that they are totaly obsessed about the topic, or it's just something they think alot on.
5. One of four titles used to classify someone based on their technical and social skills. The other three titles are nerd, dork, and normie.
