George Takei: Twilight is the common enemy of Star Wars and Star Trek fans

George Takei calls for peace, and for fans of Star Trek and Star Wars to combat Twilight, because "it is really, really bad". Video here...

For reasons that we appear to have missed, there seems to have been some pretty pointless dispute blowing up in the past few weeks between William Shatner and Carrie Fisher on whether Star Wars or Star Trek is best.

Given that we’ve used up most of our flame suits this year, we’ve got little urge to jump into the middle of that, not least because it seems a bit of a daft thing to argue about. But leave it to George Takei to moderate a canny peace.

Calling for both sides to stop arguing, Takei said that “What is needed today now more than ever is star peace, for there is an ominous mutual threat to all science fiction."

That threat?

“It’s called Twilight. And it is really, really bad.”

Warming to his subject, he continued, saying “Gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie, or epic battle. In its place, we have vampires that sparkle, and moan, and go to high school … Sci-fi fans be warned. There are no great stories, characters or profound life lessons to be had in Twilight. No, in Twilight, the only message that rings through loud and clear is 'Does my boyfriend like me?”

He ends on a rallying cry: “Let us band together to combat this mutual threat. On my part, I have written to some friends hoping they can help us rid the world of this vampire menace. Buffy, Blade, it's up to you now.”[/qoute]
