Might be worth going down the pre-made route through someone like PCspecialist tbh. Does he need an operating system, monitor and m/kb?

my first gaming PC was with PCSpecialist, It was good value..

If he needs monitor, keyboard and mouse then we'll have to change the setup to stay within budget.
If he's coming from an Xbone, he'll be expecting it to look good. Being a kid you don't want him to be disappointed if the games don't look better.
To keep the cost down I'm starting to think the AMD route may be the better option. Need to compare them like for like. Not a lot in it though I think.
